Lessons from Qnity FiLL Conference: Financial Leadership and Profitability in Salons

I recently had the opportunity to attend Qnity’s FiLL Conference for the first time, and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect walking in as a CPA.

What I walked away with? A deep appreciation for how financially-minded today’s top salons are.

Financials Are Front and Center

One of the biggest surprises for me was how often I heard discussions centered around the profit and loss statement.

This wasn’t a conference focused only on creativity or operations, it was grounded in numbers, financial performance, and profitability.

From my perspective, that’s incredibly encouraging. The most successful salons are not just great at what they do, they’re actively managing the business side as well.

Leadership Matters (Especially the Hard Conversations)

There were also several strong sessions on leadership, and one theme really stood out:

The cost of avoiding difficult conversations is high.

Many speakers emphasized that putting off tough discussions with team members ultimately impacts not just culture, but also financial performance. Clear communication and accountability are critical to building a strong, profitable business.

Reinforcing Culture Through Intentional Programs

One idea that really stuck with me came from a salon that created a “performance club” for top team members.

It wasn’t just about rewards, it was about reinforcing core values across multiple locations and creating alignment in what success looks like.

As salons grow, maintaining culture can be a challenge. This was a great example of how to do it intentionally.

Final Thoughts

As someone who works closely with salon owners on the financial side, it was exciting to see how closely aligned Qnity’s messaging is with what we talk about year-round:

  • Know your numbers
  • Lead your team well
  • Make intentional, data-driven decisions

If anything, this conference reinforced that strong financial awareness is a competitive advantage in this industry.

If you’d like to talk through what these insights could mean for your salon, whether it’s pricing, profitability, or tax strategy, I’d love to connect.
