QuickBooks Desktop Discontinuation Creates Challenges for Many Manufacturers

QuickBooks, a leading provider of accounting software, has announced the discontinuation of new versions of their QuickBooks Desktop software. The final new version will be QuickBooks Desktop 2024, with no subsequent versions planned.

After September 30, 2024, the QuickBooks Desktop version will no longer be available for purchase. Additionally, QuickBooks will cease support for the QuickBooks Desktop 2022 version after May 31st. Consequently, only the 2023 and 2024 versions will be available for support from QuickBooks. Existing monthly subscribers before September 30, 2024, can continue to renew their subscriptions to receive security updates, product updates, and support.

This discontinuation presents significant challenges for many small to mid-size manufacturers who rely on QuickBooks Desktop for its inventory tracking capabilities. These manufacturers must now identify alternative accounting software solutions to manage their inventory once QuickBooks Desktop is no longer available. Additionally, transitioning to new software will require a conversion process, which may introduce further complications.

One potential solution for these manufacturers is to adopt QuickBooks Online for their accounting needs while utilizing Fishbowl Inventory for inventory management. Fishbowl Inventory is an inventory management system that integrates seamlessly with QuickBooks Online, allowing manufacturers to continue using QuickBooks for accounting without the need to switch to an entirely new system.

Another option is QuickBooks Enterprise, which will still be available for purchase by new customers even after QuickBooks Desktop is discontinued. QuickBooks Enterprise has inventory capabilities and is similar to the QuickBooks Desktop version, but it is not online.

It is important to note that QuickBooks is not the only option available. There are numerous other accounting software and inventory management systems that manufacturers can consider.
