FinCEN - BOI
Effective January 1, 2024, many companies in the United States must report information about their beneficial owners—the individuals who ultimately own or control the company—to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Filing through the FinCEN website yourself is simple, secure, and free of charge. Beneficial ownership information reporting is not an annual requirement. Unless a company needs to update or correct information, a report only needs to be submitted once.
Filing Your BOI Report
You may choose to file your form yourself. Before you attempt to file the form, you should familiarize yourself with the rules and instructions and consider some initial information. FinCEN has issued a Small Entity Compliance Guide to walk you through the rules and process. You can access the guide below.
If you do not plan to file the form yourself, we will begin to provide assistance with the filing shortly after the April 15th, 2024 tax deadline. We will be sending out communication about the process this spring. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your dedicated Boyum Barenscheer advisor for assistance.
