Summary

A Business Advisory Services (BAS) Senior Accountant I organizes and coordinates clients’ tax data for the accurate, timely completion of individual tax returns and simple to moderately complex corporate, partnership, and S-Corp tax returns. BAS Seniors are generally responsible for participating in all phases of an engagement including tax planning. This position also involves QuickBooks consulting and training, outsourced accounting, and requires frequent collaboration with other departments and associates to help build deep client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and review of simple to moderate business and personal tax returns, ensuring accuracy, compliance with tax regulations, and adherence to firm and professional standards.

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to clients by providing technical tax guidance, addressing inquiries, and proactively identifying opportunities for tax planning and optimization.

  • Maintains awareness of prescribed budgets and deadlines, proactively managing engagement timelines to ensure efficient and timely completion of client deliverables.

  • Communicate with engagement leaders regarding open items and other pertinent matters in a timely manner.

  • Actively participates in tax planning, identifying potential risks, tax-saving opportunities, and areas for process improvement.

  • Provide technical assistance to clients in all areas of accounting.

  • Participate and lead client QuickBooks Training.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, payroll, sales tax, and MN Care tax reports in accordance with firm and professional standards as directed by engagement leaders.

  • Create or review trial balance, reconcile and tie out balance sheet and key income statement accounts.

  • Guide junior team members through the preparation of simple accounting and tax returns, reviewing their work for accuracy and offering constructive feedback.

  • Stays current with industry developments, emerging tax laws, and accounting trends, applying newfound knowledge to enhance client service and firm capabilities.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting or tax preparation preferred.

  • Active CPA certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education is required each year.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel.

  • Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.

  • Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles and personal income taxes.

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Physical Demands

  • Required to sit for long periods.

  • Extensive computer, keyboard, and mouse use.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Salary Range: $75,000 – $105,000

The stated salary range reflects compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final offers will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and location.
